Fragments
2000-2004
There are over 300 unique phrases in this project, each printed on small stickers in quantities of 20 or more. They have been posted and documented in countries around the world, including the United States, Belgium, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Canada, Malaysia, and Thailand.
You pass two people on a busy street and overhear a snippet of conversation. You find a ripped sheet of paper, half of someone’s shopping list scrawled on the back of an envelope. You trace the outline of an old sign once painted on the wall outside your office.
Fragments are broken pieces. When something is lost or destroyed, they are the remains. They are reminders (an incomplete record of what was once there). They are a glimpse into the secret lives of places and people. They are everywhere around you.
These stickers address spaces in-between and outside your work, your home, your life. They are meant to stick with you, to make you curious, to pull you in. Each one could be viewed as parts of the whole or as bits of separate stories, as pieces of you or someone you know. Whatever story was once there is now yours—find it for yourself.
